Imagine Lyrics John Lennon & Song Meaning Analysis

The Imagine lyrics John Lennon wrote are timeless.  John Lennon Lyrics always have a strong song meaning but this one may have been his greatest.

The Ex-Beatle co-produced this song and the album of the same name with famous producer Phil Spector in England in May of 1971.  Imagine is one of the most covered and performed songs of all time.  It is also unanimously considered one of the greatest songs of the 20th century.

Imagine was inspired by some of Yoko Ono's poems.  One specifically entitled "Cloud Piece" where she talks about these Utopian ideas based on the Communist Manifesto.  There is no true communist country as it is only an ideal.  The closest thing on earth is Socialism.

John Lennon describes a utopia where we all live as one people.  A world united for the good of all mankind.  If you take away the things that divide us; country borders, religion and socio-economic disparity, perhaps you reach the utopian society Lennon always dreamed of.

Whether or not it's possible to achieve, it is an interesting concept for debate.  What do you think?

Imagine there's no countries

It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion, too

Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You, you may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you will join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man

Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You, you may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you will join us
And the world will live as one

Imagine written by John Lennon will go down as some of the most classic lyrics of all time.  Former President Jimmy Carter used to say that when he travelled the globe on diplomatic business, countries around the world would sing Imagine almost as much as their national anthems, a world anthem.  It's that powerful and memorable of a lyric!

Even though Paul McCartney preferred to sing "Silly Love Songs", and trust me, I love his silly love songs, I know he had great respect for this song.
